Rhodococcus Equi Pneumonia Treatment Protocol
-
Treat Mare 30-60 days before and after foaling:
Administer 1 vial set BioPro Armour™ twice weekly orally or with a nebulizer prior to foaling to enhance and balance the cellular immune system of the mare. It is presumed the Thymus proteins pass the placental barrier and enter the fetal circulation, if this is the case the immune system of the foal should be enhanced when it is born and may possess a stronger barrier against infection. -
Treat Foal immediately upon foaling:
Treat foal daily upon foaling, with 1 vial set BioPro Armour™ either orally or with an ultrasound nebulizer for 7-10 days depending on history of incidence of severe Rhodococcus infection either on the farm or with the mare. Then administer 1 vial set 3 days a week for as long as necessary usually 3-4 months until the foal has developed its own cellular immune mediated system. -
Treatment when the foal develops Rhodococcus Pneumonia:
DAY 1- When any foal develops a high fever, diarrhea, or signs of respiratory distress and in addition to regular veterinary antibiotic protocols, immediately nebulize 1 vial set BioPro Armour™ twice the first day 2 hours apart and then nebulize with 5-15 cc NanoMax™ a proprietary Silver solution 2-3 hours after the BioPro Armour™ is administered.
DAYS 2- 14- Administer, via an ultrasonic Nebulizer 1 vial set BioPro Armour™ in the morning followed by nebulization 3-4 hours later with 5-15 cc NanoMax™ silver solution. Continue until the patient is stable and free of respiratory distress or signs of diarrhea and appetite is restored.
Within 48-72 hours the pulmonary inflammation should be decreased, and the general health of the foal should show improvement, however, in severe intractable cases it would also be a great advantage to put foal in a Hyperbaric (HBOT) Chamber daily as well, because these two modalities have been shown to be very synergistic together.
